R.I.P. is a defining debut and also a criminally underrated thrash classic that should be mentioned with the greats of thrash. R.I.P. sounds like no other thrash album I have heard besides Coroner’s follow up Punishment For Decadence. On R.I.P. Coroner play high speed neo-classical tinged thrash riffs with virtuosic leads and solos.

As a matter of fact, I think his voice works well with Coroner's brand of technical thrash. Overall, I think this may very well be one of Coroner's best discs. While I would not label "R.I.P" death metal, it was definitely a precursor to death metal. Coroner - Punishment for Decadence (Noise) "Intro" ().

Anyways, my first reaction was that they owe Mercyful Fate some money. Anyone who knows Mercyful Fates albums Melissa and Dont Break the Oath can play the "spot the riff" game. Reborn Through Hate is from the end of Satans Fall. Nosferatu intro is from To One Far Away. Totentanz intro is from Into the Coven. RIP is from Nightmare.

All said, R.I.P. is an amazing piece of thrash metal music, especially as a first album. I'll be reviewing Punishment for Decadence shortly, so expect more eerily amused grins coming out of this satisfied metalhead. I award Coroner the best seat in the classroom and five gold stars, plus it gets first dibs on what they want during playtime/5(31).
