The bass voice gongs in Java consist of two types. The Gong Ageng is the largest and deepest of the gongs, often 40" (cm) in diameter. The other bass voice gong is the Gong Suwouk. This is smaller than the Ageng and there are usually two per scale. The bass voice gongs in Bali consist of the Gong Wadon and the Gong Lanang. The Gong Wadon is the largest Balinese gong at about 38" (95cm.

In the ceremonial funeral music it sounded almost like the typical gamelan gong orchestra. There is much similarity with it's loud ringing of the metallophones and punctuating rhythm produced by the large heavy bossed gongs. I found this to be very lively and it sounds as though it's in the kebyar style/5(5).

A fascinating immersion in the heart of a funeral ceremony live recorded in Bali, where gongs, cymbals, and drums give rhythm to the bewitching atmosphere of this mortuary procession. Liner notes are available in English French, Japanese and Italian. Recorded by Vincenzo Della Ratta Vinyl version is almost sold out, last chance!!

Music of Gamelan Gong Keybar 1 / Various dance, puppet theater, religious, and royal examples ensue. Track 9 is a stone gamelan. Bamboo gamelans are found in Bali; here, stalactites and stalagmites in a caves between Surakara an Yoyakarta offer a highly unusual, surprisingly hollow but flat sound. quand j'ai un coup de blues je me mets /5(9).

Format: Audio CD This album is a reissue from a release, which has a different cover design. Ever since Nonesuch marketed a series of Javanese Court Music in the s, this beautiful, mellow, and gentle metallophone music has enchanted its Western listeners .
